Bioactive Peptides...what are they ?

May 28, 2024

Bioactive peptides are sequences of amino acids that exert an effect on body functions in both humans and animals. They are packets of information that are hidden within the sequence of the amino acids that make up proteins. Most commonly found in food and on this frog called Kambo. They provide a wide range of added health benefits to the body. The bioactivity of a specific peptide depends on its sequence as well as the needs of the body.

Insulin, Oxytocin, Growth hormone, Antibiotics, and Enzymes are all examples of peptides. Peptides affect mood, energy, cognitive reasoning, blood sugar, digestion, blood pressure and immune system regulation. Peptides can help with inflammation and even stop the growth of microorganisms in the body.

Bioactive peptides are relatively new to the health industry and have been referred to as the 21st century nutrients. Although the tribes in the jungle may not have been able to study them in a lab like we do now, it is fascinating that the tribes have been using this for so long.

I like to refer to the bioactive peptides in Kambo a supplement

Bioactive peptides have been found to help prevent cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, and hypertension as well as improve immune function. This is still a growing field and research has led to ongoing clinical trials and new product development. An example in which bioactive peptides are being used to develop a product and are trying to target those with high blood pressure is an ACE inhibitor from whey protein. An ACE inhibitor is angiotensin-converting-enzyme, a medication that is used to treat high blood pressure.
