OIL UP!
Mar 27, 2021Fall is here! In Ayurveda, we call it Vata season. This means there it is drier than usual, its beginning to get colder, and you may experience some more airy/spacey elements around this time.
Oils are always important to incorporate into your daily routine & into your diet. Especially right now.
IT IS TIME TO OIL UP!
Oils are important for health for so many reasons. Its primary function is to nourish the cells of the body and assist the nervous system in sending messages to your brain. Oils help the intestines absorb vitamins which are stored in the good fats in the body. Oil also lubricates and cushions the body. According to Ayurveda, oil helps reduce vata imbalance which we all have, because air is everywhere around us.

What kind of oil do I use?
This varies on the season and the person.
Every oil has a different weight and different properties. For example, Coconut oil is very light, making better suited for the summer. It does not absorb as well as heavier oils. Sesame oil is the heaviest and is good for autumn.
Do some research, and find oil that work for you. Remember, in different seasons, you may need to switch your oils.
Ghee.
Ghee is the way to go. It is the most versatile of all. You can use it on just about anything. And it tastes delicious! Ghee is the absolute best for high heat cooking. Coconut oil is next in line for preferred cooking.
Organic is best.
Oils to Avoid!!!
Canola.
Canola is a bioengineered product made from rapeseed and was originally acceptable when first produced. It is called Canola because it was GMO’d in Canada by Monsanto. There is really no reason to use it. It is a processed substance created and it is no longer cost effective for companies to use except that they already have contracts and don't like change. The body does not know what it is. Therefore cannot process it. It is in everything. Rather than be discouraged, begin to be more aware of what is in your food. And make different choices.
Palm Oil.
The palm oil industry is killing our rainforests, and it's in everything!!! In 2015 Indonesia surpassed the U.S. for greenhouse gas emissions because they are the largest producer. Palm oil actually has three times the emission of CO2 and methane than traditional fossil fuels.
