5 REASONS I LOVE BEING A YOGA TEACHER

Mar 27, 2021

Hi, my name is Jessi Rose McMaster, I am an athlete, an artist and a fitness enthusiast, who found yoga as the most useful tool to help me become the best version of myself.

I had spent years testing my body’s limits in competitive sports, and already in my early 20s, I was suffering from crippling sciatic nerve pain. I felt empowered by being intense & extreme, and I didn’t even realize that I exhausted so much of my energy by reacting to things, to my emotions and to others.  I couldn’t play soccer anymore, and I was searching for a new outlet for all my energy. I began practicing yoga in 2009, as a way to keep my body active and strong. Its unique physical & mental challenges strengthened my spirit in a brilliant way. Yoga taught me the importance of moving with intention and it was healing to revive my inner power & wisdom.  In 2013, I got certified as a Yoga Teacher at Stella Luna Yoga in Cypress. Since then, I have continued to learn and grow. I completed my 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training in 2014, I become a Personal Trainer & Strength Coach, got certified in Pilates Mat, Reformer, and Chair. I love teaching mindful movement, and I am on a mission to help all my students feel good in their bodies.

5 REASONS I LOVE TEACHING YOGA:

  1. Breath.  I know I have always breathed.  But, it wasn’t until I did my first Yoga Teacher Training that I learned how to properly harness my breath.  The power that you can connect to when you are breathing slow & deep is phenomenal. And I wish to share that experience with all my students.

  2. Awareness.  Slowing down enough to become aware of everything.  Once you become aware of something, you give it space to naturally unfold, unravel & undo itself.  It loses its control over you. And now you get to choose. I love reminding my students of their choice.

  3. Creating space.  I have always enjoyed being a host.  And as a yoga teacher I get to host a space where people come to feel good.  I love getting to class early to ensure the space is perfect for my guests.

  4. Mindful movement. Yoga is the basis for any movement I teach, because it emphasizes mindfulness from the inside out.  Whether I am teaching Zumba, or Pilates, or Spin, I educate my students about the importance of connecting to their breath.  Anything & everything you do can turn into a full mind-body experience. This is yoga.

  5. Connection.  Yoga opens us up.  It reminds us how good it feels to trust, to be kind to one another, to co-create & collaborate with each other.  Through teaching yoga, I have met and connected with so many amazing people!
