AROMA THERAPY & YOU

Aromatherapy Basics

Aromatherapy is the practice of using naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants (essential oils) to balance, harmonize and promote holistic healing of body, mind and spirit.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Essential oils contain compounds, straight from the plants, that exert a pharmacological effect when they penetrate the body.  Essential oils vibrate at the highest frequency of any natural substance known to man. It is a medicine that invokes wellness and vitality.

HOW TO USE OILS:

It is important to use pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils that are concentrated naturally through steam distillation.  The use of synthetic materials to extract oils alters and affect the value and purity.

Inhaling

  • spraying in the air, diffusing, smelling

  • Inhaling essential oils can have an emotional impact on you because the smell is absorbed directly through the olfactory nerve.

WHAT IS ENERGY HEALING?

Uncategorized Feb 05, 2020

Energy is all around us and inside of us. You might say you are energy, as are plants and animals here on earth. We use certain forms of energy such as electricity to power our machines and toys, even to jump start a heart that has stopped beating.

In fact, without an electrical impulse your heart wouldn’t be pumping right now. We are energetic human beings.

We can all feel energy. You can feel heat & cold. Most of us, but not all, can “feel” energy by placing our hands about 4 to 6 inches from each other with palms facing towards each other and pressing lightly toward one another. There is a slight feeling of pressure; this is you feeling your own energy.

WHY DO YOU WANT MORE ENERGY OR TO EXPERIENCE ENERGY AS A HEALING MODALITY?

Energy is the universal life force.

“In physics, energy is a property of objects which can be transferred to other objects or converted into different forms. The "ability of a system to perform work" is a common description, but...

5 WAYS TO DEFEAT SELF SABOTAGE

Allowing and welcoming the gifts of life to come to me, is a lesson I am always learning. And I feel honored to share my journey with you.

I love to get deep and personal with others, and Iʼm not that great at small talk.  I often feel awkward around new acquaintances and strangers, and a different side of me reveals herself.  My awkwardness blocks me from being my best self, I might say something weird or try too hard to be funny.

Do you ever feel like that?

Well….

Here are the 5 ways that really help me defeat self sabotage and step into the light of who I truly am:

  1. Get in touch with your body. Get up. Sit down. Move, change position. Wiggle do something to change your physical perspective. Maintaining awareness in your body will help you stay present and real.

  2. Count out loud “5-4-3-2-1. I am ok.” As soon as you feel yourself checking out. Just do it. When it comes to being the real you, who cares what other people think.

  3. Remember you are the...

CONNECT WITH YOUR ENERGY

In yoga, we use our breath as a tool to focus our attention on the present moment.  Taking full, deep breaths allows your energy to move, and it brings you into an aware & mindful state of being.  Learning how to control your breath is called “Pranayama,” which can be translated as “life energy control.”

When we take a physical breath, there is a corresponding movement of energy up & down the spine.  It is subtle yet, powerful. And the more you practice tuning into the sensations of breath moving in the body, the easier it will get to harness your own life energy.

Guidelines to keep in mind while practicing breath work:

  • Keep your face, throat, neck & shoulders relaxed.

  • Always give away (exhale) more than you take in.

  • Find a comfortable position & Maintain a long spine.

  • To help you feel the energy, Close your eyes.

  • Go slow, be easy with yourself.

Here is a short video to practice along with:

OIL UP!

Fall is here! In Ayurveda, we call it Vata season. This means there it is drier than usual, its beginning to get colder, and you may experience some more airy/spacey elements around this time.

Oils are always important to incorporate into your daily routine & into your diet. Especially right now.

IT IS TIME TO OIL UP!

Oils are important for health for so many reasons. Its primary function is to nourish the cells of the body and assist the nervous system in sending messages to your brain. Oils help the intestines absorb vitamins which are stored in the good fats in the body. Oil also lubricates and cushions the body. According to Ayurveda, oil helps reduce vata imbalance which we all have, because air is everywhere around us.

Ways to Use Oil

  • Use oil on your skin instead of lotion after your shower.

  • Use a drop of oil in your nose after neti pot, going in the ocean, after being around smoke or if you are feeling dry.

    • Stella recommends an Ayurvedic oil, such as Nasya Oil...

WARMING UP TO APPLES

Fall Season is the perfect time to warm your food.

According to Ayurveda, eating warmed foods and adding warming elements, such as cinnamon and spices help the digestion stay strong during the winter months.

I love to make a quick and easy, any time meal with fresh delicious in-season apples. Because I live California, I can actually grow apples and that warms my heart as they are on the “must be organic” list for me and my family.

I am a big believer in the law of least effort, especially when in the kitchen, so stewed and spicy apples are the perfect meal for this season!

Spicy-Sweet Autumn Apples Recipe

4-6 apples, cored and cut to your preference

4 pitted prunes

1 stick of cinnamon

4 green cardamom pods

6 whole cloves

1 c. water

Optional: add figs or dried fruit to your liking

If possible, try to use all organic ingredients.

I like to core and cut a couple of apples and place them in a cast iron skillet skin side down. Then I add 4 pitted prunes, or more if you like,...

WHAT IS YOGA?

Here at Stella Luna Yoga, we create a space where Yoga is easy and accessible. We get questions all the time about yoga, and “what is it exactly,” hopefully this post will provide some clarity as you continue on your journey.

WHAT IS YOGA?

The word Yoga means “to yoke,” “to bring together.”

Yoga is not a religion.

Yoga is the Spiritual technology that unifies mind, body & soul.

It is the original Do-It-Yourself Life School.

Yoga is based on the 8 limbed path. And The physical practice of yoga is just one of the limbs.

Each of these limbs can be studied independently and/or in-depth but, it is important to master the basics of them all.  So you can customize your own journey of Yoga.

8 LIMB PATH

  1. Niyamas: Observances for self care

  2. Yamas: Observances in relation with others

  3. Asana: poses/exercises

  4. Pranayama: Breath Control

  5. Pratyahara: Withdrawal of the senses

  6. Dhyana: Focus

  7. Dharana: Meditation

  8. Samadhi: Absorption

5 REASONS I LOVE BEING A YOGA TEACHER

Uncategorized Jan 16, 2020

Hi, my name is Jessi Rose McMaster, I am an athlete, an artist and a fitness enthusiast, who found yoga as the most useful tool to help me become the best version of myself.

I had spent years testing my body’s limits in competitive sports, and already in my early 20s, I was suffering from crippling sciatic nerve pain. I felt empowered by being intense & extreme, and I didn’t even realize that I exhausted so much of my energy by reacting to things, to my emotions and to others.  I couldn’t play soccer anymore, and I was searching for a new outlet for all my energy. I began practicing yoga in 2009, as a way to keep my body active and strong. Its unique physical & mental challenges strengthened my spirit in a brilliant way. Yoga taught me the importance of moving with intention and it was healing to revive my inner power & wisdom.  In 2013, I got certified as a Yoga Teacher at Stella Luna Yoga in Cypress. Since then, I have continued to...
